Animating Our Streets

Date: Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 September
Time: 12.00pm – 6pm
Location: Stirling City Centre including Stirling Arcade, Friars Street and Upper Craigs.
Led by: Go Forth Stirling (the Business Improvement District) and social enterprise Picture the Possible.

Stirling’s streets will come alive with art and music during Stirling’s Festival of Volunteering as the city launches its first Street Art Festival.

`Animating Our Streets’ is a collaboration between Go Forth Stirling, local traders and the city’s creative community to inspire creativity. Go Forth Stirling Director Jon Walton, social entrepreneur Janie Meikle Bland and street artist Mia McGregor are behind the initiative to promote Stirling which centres around interactive art installations and pop up music spots. The festival is supported by young volunteers. Local people and visitors will be invited to contribute to an innovative public art project by drawing and writing on eight 1m high by 1m wide cubes based around the city.

The cubes will be installed in Stirling Arcade, at Europa Music and the Sable and Flea Coffee shop in Friars Street, in the Kilted Kangaroo pub and the Thistles Shopping Centre. The festival includes music from young volunteers at pop-up entertainment spots throughout the city centre.

There will also be opportunities to take part in documentary photography – telling the stories of local businesses and the transformation of the cubes – led by Picture the Possible and their team of young volunteers.
